In the classroom I emphasize what could be called the language of art:

Assessment
Students are assessed in a variety of ways. 2nd Grade-5th Grade participate in grading themselves using checklists and rubrics. I use the same formats to grade the students. If there is a substantial difference between the self-assessment and my assessment, the two of us discuss the differences. Students are also evaluated with multiple choice tests.
All students participate in classroom critiques: all the class’s artwork is displayed and we talk about and analyze the works using the language of art. Students talk about their peer’s artworks and they evaluate their own as part of this discussion. Students are graded on their ability to present ideas in front of a class and on the language of art that they use.

About the art teacher, Susan Fraser Ms. Fraser received her Bachelor and Masters Degree from USC. She has been teaching at B-C #1 for ten years. In 2003 she became a National Board Certified teacher. Ms. Fraser lives in Lexington and has a husband and two daughters. |
