Physical Education
At BC#1 Grammar School
We hope to provide a beneficial and pleasant learning experience by offering a variety of activities that promote strength, game skills, and fitness. Our program is designed to provide each student the opportunity to develop his/her movement skills, with the knowledge and understanding of these skills – moving from the simple to the more complex.
We hope that each child will experience a continuous sequence of learning through the elementary grades that will enable her/him to
  • Demonstrate effective and efficient movement patterns
  • Refine these patterns to demonstrate skillful movement
  • Show confidence in movement skills
  • Understand the value of physical fitness and seek to attain a higher level of fitness.
  • Use movement and sport as a means of social interaction and develop a worthy use of leisure time.

    ASSESSMENT
Your child will receive a “Basic Movement Skills” grade in PE. This is an assessment of your child’s skill in the activity that was taught. This grade will be determined by skill tests, checklists and written tests. Both teacher observation and videotape will be used.

Wear tennis shoes on PE days.
Remember to bring a note if sick or injured.

Proper Clothing
The nature of the program dictates that certain types of clothing need to be worn on "PE Day."  Proper clothing would be shorts or pants, a comfortable shirt and TENNIS SHOES.  Wearing these clothes will insure your child's full participation in our program.

About the Teacher,
Ken Dawkins
Mr. Dawkins has been teaching 28 years at BC#1. He has a BS degree and a Masters degree, both from the University of South Carolina. Over the past several years he has been involved with the Clinical Model Teacher Program at USC and has been a cooperating teacher for over 30 student teachers.

Ken Dawkins is the 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year at B-C#1 Grammar.

Physical Education Health Form
Occasionally, students will have some sort of physical condition that limits their full participation in the Physical Education program. It is very important that Mr. Dawkins is aware of these conditions. If your child has a condition like this, please take the time to fill out the form and return it to me as soon as possible so any needed accommodations can be made.
