General Music
We use many different elements of song, dance. listening and playing skills during the year. Our program is designed to help develop a life-long respect for all types of music and to give the children the opportunity to experience various types of music from other cultures. Each grade level will be exposed to various musical units that have been created in order to facilitate the expansion of their minds in the world of music - incorporating art, writing and movement.
Assessment
Grades are derived from skills tests, checklists, written quizzes and tests, singing and playing tests (rubric). Each activity is based ona grade scale of 0 (Unsatisfactory) -4 (Excellent). If the student does not participate and does not show any effort in the activity then the student's grade will result in a 0.
Level 4: Student shows consisten performance and uses correct method 90-100% of the time.
Level 3: Student shows consistent performance and uses correct method 75-89% of the time.
Level 2: Student shows consitent performance and uses correct method 50-74% of the time.
Level 1: Student shows no performance and does not participate in any way.
Chorus
The chorus is made up of 4th and 5th grade students. We perform at PTA events, nursing homes. This year we will compete with other elementary schools in our state at Carowinds. A winter and spring concert are planned.

Mr. Seth Smith, General music and Chorus Director This is Mr. Smith's third year at B-C#1. He has a Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Newberry College and Master's Degree in Education from Columbia College. He is married and lives in Lexington. |
