OASIS ACADEMY

Opportunities for Accelerated Students in Interdisciplinary Studies

This program is a full day academically accelerated school program for students in grades 3-5.  There is one class at each grade level.  It offers students a wide variety of educational experiences, including creative and critical thinking, problem solving, hands-on activities in math and science and incorporation of technology across the curriculum.  The curriculum is challenging with extensive problem-based science and math units and an advanced interdisciplinary approach in language arts and social studies.

Student Benefits

  • Full day accelerated program
  • Challenging academics
  • State of the art technology
  • Emphasis on inquiry
  • Specialized curriculum based on nationally recognized models
  • In depth thematic study in each grade
  • Specialists in accelerated learning

Student Identification Criteria:

Applicants must meet all state criteria and be qualified for academically gifted program placement.  Those students from B-C#1 identified by state criteria as academically gifted and talented will have first priority.  Remaining spaces will be applied for and students will be accepted by a district committee.  Applicants should also have good school attendance and good discipline records.  Transportation to and from Oasis Academy must be provided by parent/guardian.  Siblings of accepted applicants will have priority for school choice, if the sibling also qualifies.  Attempts will be made to keep an equitable racial balance.  Oasis fifth graders not zoned to feed into Northside Middle School will have priority for school choice when they enter middle school.

Student Performance Review of Continuation:

In the interest of children and their academic success, a review of student progress will occur at the end of each school year.  The following data will be used to determine continuation:

  • classroom performance (minimum academic average of 75 maintained)
  • standardized achievement test scores
  • other potential data
